On March 21, 2026, fellow film music podcaster Frank R. Wilson stated in a five-minute episode on his six-year-old podcast WHAT’S THE SCORE that the show was coming to an end. Unable to continue due to rising costs of running the podcast, he decided it was time to step away from the microphone. The program certainly had a loyal fan base, and their regret that it was ending was evident in the comments of support, admiration, and thankfulness that flooded social media just minutes after the episode was published. “I’ve greatly enjoyed What’s The Score, which is a favourite podcast of mine,” a fan commented. Another said, “Sad to hear. You did an amazing job with this podcast and have been a great host, Frank.” Previous guests of Frank’s podcast also reached out, saying, “This is such sad news! I love this and am honoured to have taken part in two of them.” Another added, “I so very much enjoyed being on your show (twice!), and you’re an amazing host! This has been an amazing journey! Six years is quite an accomplishment!”
I never wish to see a film music podcast end, especially one with so much love and support behind it. After reading those messages, I thought of reaching out to Frank to see if I could help him. And, encouraged by a CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO patron who asked if I could “port Frank’s show over to Cinematic Sound Radio,” I contacted Frank the next day and asked if he wanted to join CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. I offered not only to host any new show he created for us but also to transfer his entire six-year archive of episodes, which totalled nearly 120 episodes, to the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO servers. Frank agreed, and the process of moving WHAT’S THE SCORE to CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO began. It took some time, but I’m pleased to announce that the entire back catalogue of WHAT’S THE SCORE episodes is available HERE and can be downloaded and enjoyed at your leisure.
In addition to the archival episodes, Frank will continue to produce new episodes of WHAT’S THE SCORE, and they will all be hosted here at CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO.
Frank has conducted interviews with many musicians, composers, actors, and filmmakers, but what really sets his podcast apart is that he speaks with fans. There aren’t many podcasts on film music that offer to speak with people like you and me who regularly listen to these amazing scores and revere these composers like Gods!
So, please welcome Frank R. Wilson into the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO family. And if you feel so inclined, please support Frank’s show by joining his Patreon!
FRANK R. WILSON BIOGRAPHY
Frank Wilson’s career and life have taken many twists and turns. His career started in retail and turned to outside sales, which led to a long career in training facilitation in a corporate setting. He designed and facilitated classes in areas like sales, leadership, team building, work-life harmony and many more. His role took him to over 30 countries and with bases of operations in Dallas, Cleveland, Hong Kong and Singapore. Wanting to take a different turn, he and his wife bought a country inn in Vermont, where they were innkeepers for 8 years. They then decided to move back to their home base in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2012, where Frank continued his training career. In a few years, another turn took place where Frank pursued an acting career. He appeared as a background artist in many productions but also has many appearances in speaking roles on TV, in short films and several features. His love of film music was partly the cause for this move, as he has always had a love of film.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s, he took to the film music of Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams and especially John Barry. After retiring from acting, Frank wanted to continue with his passion for film and film music, so the podcast WHAT’S THE SCORE was born. Frank interviews people in the film world and super fans to learn about them and their favourite film music. Past guests include Bill Conti, Lee Holdridge, George S. Clinton, Craig Safan, and many others. Other guests include actors, filmmakers, musicians and sound engineers. I even have an episode with John Barry…you can find it in the archive.
Now semi-retired, Frank lives with his wife of 40+ years, Robin, in Baton Rouge and will continue his quest to share interesting people with their favourite film music right here on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO.

I remember Frank and others discussing the James Bond theme and debating who actually composed it? The program I remember was very objective and fair I thought. It really is a must for film music films to listen to, given the controversy surrounding that iconic theme. Frank actually spoke to John Barry over the phone which again is a must listen to. It’s an ongoing debate with the James Bond theme and we all have out own opinions on it. Have a listen to these podcasts you wont be disappointed, I’m sure Erik will have them in the archive now.
