HTTYD2Welcome to Cinematic Sound Radio’s first new releases program of 2014.

On the program today you will hear parts one and two of a four part “Catching Up With 2014″ show where we are featuring new music from films released in 2014.

We open up this program with the premiere of John Powell’s highly anticipated score to HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2.  It’s fantastic.  We will also play music from NON-STOP (Ottman), THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (Zimmer and Friends), THE LEGEND OF HERCULES (Kantelinen), TARZAN (Newman), COSMOS: A SPACE TIME ODYSSEY (Silvestri), JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT (Doyle), NOAH (Mansell), NEED FOR SPEED (Furst) and 50 TO 1 (Ross)  Parts three and four will be uploaded some time next week.

A big thanks to all the record labels, composers and PR agencies who continue to support the show. And a very special thanks to the great Tim Burden for assisting with the production of this very program

What I’m hearing from How to train your dragon 2 is not only a monumental achivement. This score may be one of the best scores of the past few years and may be better than the first one.

    • Erik Woods says:

It’s pretty darn impressive. I was hoping for this score to be Powell’s THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, if you know what I mean, and I think he succeeded.

  2. Pablo Reyes says:

    Hey Erik,
Thanks for the share! Do you think you could name the tracks from How to Train Your Dragon 2 you put in the mix? Time-links wouldn’t be bad either… Anyway, thanks a lot for the share.
    Take care.

    • Erik Woods says:

I opened the show with Dragon Racing. The main suite contains Flying With Mother, Battle of the Bewilderbeast, Stoick’s Ship, Alpha Comes to Berk, Toothless Found and Two New Alphas. Thanks for tuning in!

  3. Nina says:

Gosh it is so beautiful! The How to Train Your Dragon one is just awesome but I love everything that was featured here. Noah, Nonstop, Spiderman and 50 to One (? Is it correct, the last score?) were really amazing too.

  4. Ben says:

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Spider-man. I didn’t know what to expect from Hans & co., but I think he took a really creative and appropriate approach to this one.

And of course, HtTYD2 is shaping up to be the best score this year. Powell is a genius, and I hope whatever music he makes in years to come is commercially available.

  5. Jay Polk says:

Cosmos is my favorite score of the year.
