TALKING SOUNDTRACKS: INTERVIEW WITH LEIGH PHILLIPS – PART ONE

Leigh Phillips is a composer, orchestrator, and producer with experience in creating unique compositions and orchestrations for media, concert performances, and CD recordings.

In May 2023 for TALKING SOUNDTRACKS ON THE CINEMATIC SOUND PODCAST, Jason Drury had the pleasure of talking to Leigh Phillips from his home in Prague. Leigh was the first person Jason ever interviewed on his previous station, Kaspaar, way back in 2013.

In this first part of a two-part interview, Leigh discusses his musical background, how he got into orchestration work and score reconstruction, and how he started working with James Fitzpatrick and Tadlow Records

Also during both parts of the show, music chosen by Leigh himself will be played to highlight some of the orchestration and reconstruction projects he has worked on, including LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, EXODUS, SALAMANDER, RANSOM, DAMNATION ALLEY, and more.

Enjoy!

Great interview Jason. Nic Raine’s recording of ‘The Salamander’ remains one of my favourite releases, from the classic early 80s Goldsmith period. Huge admiration for the way Leigh reconstructed this score by ear! Looking forward to Part 2!
