FAVOURITE SCORES OF 2017 | PART II

On today’s episode, we are presenting the long-awaited, final episode of our TOP 20 FAVOURITE SCORES OF 2017 program. I’ve been absent from the program for about a month now. A terrible flu ripped through my family in February, which also affected me, and only now am I starting to feel somewhat normal.

The first part of our countdown celebrated selections 20 through to 11.  You can hear that program by clicking HERE!

Today’s program presents suites from selections 10 through to 1 featuring the film, TV and video game music of Alexandre Desplat, John Williams, Theodore Shapiro, Jonny Greenwood, Yoko Kanno, George Kallis, Christopher Willis, Yasunori Mitsuda and Michael Giacchino.

While I’m sure your personal best of 2017 list is very different than mine, I never expect anyone’s favourites to mirror my own, I offer you a chance to put me in my place. Please feel free to contact me or write in the comments section below with scores that I might have left off the list.

With that, enjoy the countdown!

Some overlaps with my personal Top 10, but shocked The Post is here and that it is above The Last Jedi. Also shocked Onna jōshu Naotora is not in your Top 5. Haven’t heard Death of Stalin before but sounds really good. I agree that Last Jedi was a mess of a film. Such unnecessary stuff in film that should have been cut. I actually like Rose but felt her character was way underdeveloped and the love story element was a bit forced overall. Still like you said Rey-Renn-Luke stuff was great. And still unsure why they killed Smoke halfway through film. Seemed odd. I think Williams did a fantastic job though and I think a lot if the copy paste issues were due to his recording schedule being so early in the year before film was finished. And probably why his concert end credits piece was pretty substandard for Williams. Still I loved the score and still felt it was the best thing written this year.

Awesome 2nd part of the show! Love the selections, and very happy to see The Last Jedi in the Top 10. Jonny Greenwood continues his sterling work, and I can’t tell you how overjoyed I am to be introduced to Captain Underpants – what an entertaining and wonderful score! I’ll be binge-listening to this for months to come. Thanks Eric for everything you bring to Cinematic Sound Radio and your collaborators such as Jason and Tim (my La La Land ET CD just landed and I just had to get this after listening to Mike’s engaging interview).
