RE-RECORDINGS | #7 THE GREAT FANTASY ADVENTURE ALBUM

Our number 7 re-recording of all time is THE GREAT FANTASY ADVENTURE ALBUM (1994) featuring suites from such films as JURASSIC PARK, ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES, THE ROCKETEER, THE TERMINATOR and many others. The music was performed by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra conducted by Erich Kunzel. The album was produced for Telarc Records by Robert Woods.

    R.I.P., Mr. Kunzel.

The Cincinnati Pops, as conducted by Erich Kunzel, are an underrated ensemble. Sure, Nic Raine and the Prague Philharmonic have all the fireworks, but the Telarc recordings were the first I knew and my personal favorites.

Indeed! Thanks for your comment, Richard.

Too bad Kunzel/CPO didn’t tackle full re-recordings especially in the 80’s and 90’s when the sound of their albums were unbeatable! Also, it would have great if they recorded an Indiana Jones album. After listening to the super “Escape from Vencie” cue on Fantastic Journey, which can be heard on my Indy show http://www.cinematicsound.net/?p=993, an Indy album from Telarc would have been superb!

another great show, Erik, as always. thanks! what really stood out for me was The Terminator theme. this is one of the best and themes for a movie I have ever listened to! the synthesizers are amazing! I got the expanded album on ebay several months ago for very cheap 5 euros :). too bad I didn’t know that Brad Fiedel was at the DarkDel composer event last Sunday :/, I would love to have this CD signed. Anyway, I am putting this adventure album on my to-buy list only because of The Terminator theme (although the percussion in this version could had been more powerfull). Karol

When you get the CD turn your stereo up to 11 and let the percussion blow you away! The sound on this album and other 80’s and 90’s Telarc recordings are like none I’ve ever heard before! Simply outstanding!

I often don’t consider re-recordings because, when it comes to genre movies, I have so many of the original score recordings already; but I think I’ll be picking this one up. Thanks for the tip, Erik!

Glad you enjoyed the selections and it’s good see that you are going to pick this one up!

    H Erik,
Just finished listening to the latest re-recording instalment. Wow! is the first word that comes to mind. I really liked it. Have to admit I was not aware of Telarc CDs at all. Now that I am I think I will try to pick up this CD and maybe some of their others. I’m a bit like Mike Poteet, in that I have lots of scores so wouldn’t usually think of buying a re-recording, until now. Also the Brad Fiedel cue is truly outstanding. I’ve always liked the music from T1 and T2. Thanks Erik, I look forward to more shows.
