RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK 30th ANNIVERSARY

On June 12th, 2011 one of the greatest films of all time turns 30 years old.  On that date in 1981 the world was introduced to the motion picture event of the year – RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK – starring Harrison Ford as one of the most iconic characters in movie history, Indiana Jones.

To celebrate this momentous occasion we are going to playing music from all four John Williams Indiana Jones scores; RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981), INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984), INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (1989) and INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (2008).

However, we are going to be doing things a little differently than have with past Indiana Jones themed programs.  Have a listen to hear how we mixed things up…

PLAYLIST • RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK – The Raiders March, The Basket Chase  • INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM – Nocturnal Activities, Parade of the Slave Children, End Credits • INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE – Scherzo For Motorcycle and Orchestra, Escape From Venice, End Credits • INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL – Irina’s Theme, Call of the Crystal, The Adventures of Mutt, Temple Ruins and the Secret Revealed, The Departure •  EXTRAS – Marion’s Theme, Suite: Raiders of the Lost Ark & Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Fantastic show, Erik, with a nice mix of selections! The final “Suite” was completely new to me. It’s always great to hear a new take on familiar material, especially when it’s well-performed.

Glad you enjoyed the show, Doug. I was debating whether to include the Budd suite or not since we had already heard the Temple of Doom End Credits earlier. But it’s such a unique arrangement that I had to play it!

  2. Greetings!

Congratulations for the Radio Program and Cinematicsound.net

      Thanks Andres!

I think it’s crazy that Silva never recorded the concert suites from the fourth film, including the new Marion’s Theme arrangement. Ah well, great show, Erik!

Indeed! I can’t believe it wasn’t included on their year in review disc. Hopefully Williams will do one more Spielberg/Williams collaboration CD with the new Marion arrangement. For those that haven’t heard the new concert version of Marion’s Theme have a listen to this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4wVcgW3yQE

Good show Erik!! I enjoyed it a lot! What is the name of the CD that the last track is taken from? It was a very interesting arrangement…I would like to get a hold of it!

    Hi Erik,

Thanks for this wonderful show again. I’m listening right now and I’m almost at ‘The Skull’, which will be new material for me as I haven’t heard that one yet! (shame on me? perhaps… 😉 )

Just needed to reply immediately to say that the recording of the Last Crusade End Titles is awesome. The Grail theme has always been one of my favourite Indy themes and this performance just gave me goosebumps all over!! So thanks for sharing.

    Byebye,

Fantastic music, fantastically curated (as always). How did I miss this one the first time around? Thanks for highlighting it again for Raiders’ anniversary!

I was struck by how much the “Parade of the Slave Children” reminds me of the flag parade music from “The Phantom Menace.”
