REVIEW | THE RED VIOLIN

I simply love this score. What I find so fascinating is that the concert piece “Chaconne for Orchestra and Violin” was written before the film score was written. So, basically, Corigliano had already written his film score before the picture was finished and all he had to do was adapt it to the images. Most of the major themes and motifs are in the concert work however the Chaconne is a much larger set piece which incorporates the entire symphony orchestra (powerful stuff) while the film score itself is a much smaller and intimate work. Featuring James Fitzpatrick conducting the City of Prague Philharmonic. A classic western score that had more to it then just the catchy main theme. Sure, there's memorable themes, bouncy music and fun action material but there is some exceptional dramatic writing as well. Check out the track "Businesslike Mattie/Papa's Things"…

"Parade of Charioteers" from BEN-HUR, "Overture" from NORTH BY NORTHWEST and "The Ride of the Cossacks" from TARAS BULBA. Also included is the rousing "Conquest" from CAPTAIN FROM CASTILE…

REVIEW | BRAINSTORM

James Horner’s re-recording of his score to Brainstorm clocks in at just over 30 minutes.  But within these 30 minutes is some of the most impressive and original material Horner has ever created. There's a wonderful clash of emotions right off the top of the album opening with angelic female…

REVIEW | WONDER WOMAN

This energetic, high tempo score was composed by Christopher Drake who has become one of the most impressive new composers I’ve heard from in the past few years.  His work on BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT was superb.  Drake doesn’t fool around with his new score to WONDER WOMAN as he knocks…
