A TRIBUTE TO BASIL POLEDOURIS (1945-2006)

On November 8, 2006, the film music world lost one of its most cherished and beloved heroes, Basil Poledouris.  It has been ten years since his sudden passing from cancer and on today’s program, CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is proud to present a program dedicated exclusively to the work of the Emmy Award-winning composer.

On the show, you will hear music from 25 scores including BIG WEDNESDAY, CONAN THE DESTROYER, THE BLUE LAGOON, RED DAWN, FLESH + BLOOD, FAREWELL TO THE KING, LOVESOME DOVE, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, FREE WILLY, FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME, THE TOUCH and much more.

As a special bonus to our cinematicsound.net, Cinematic Sound Radio iTunes and Podtyrant listeners you will hear two extended suites of music. The first will be from STARSHIP TROOPERS featuring music from Varese Sarabande Records’ deluxe edition soundtrack. The second suite will be from Naxos Music’s CONAN FOR ORGAN recording featuring organist Philipp Pelster.

    Hi Erik,
Ever since I’ve been interested in film music I’ve gravitated towards Basil Poledouris scores. There’s just something magical about his style. Thank you for producing such a wonderful tribute to Mr. Poledouris.

Personal favourite – the sweeping opening of Big Wednesday.

Wow! Where has this music been all my life? I was acquainted with the first CONAN and one track of FREE WILLY, but almost everything here is glorious and new to me. Thanks for a great show and some great new finds!
