EP. 15 | NOW YOU SEE ME 2, OVERWATCH, THE NEON DEMON AND MORE

On this week’s episode of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, we’ll be featuring music from six brand new scores. We open the program with music from Brian Tyler’s new score to NOW YOU SEE ME 2. We’ll also be featuring music from the new video game OVERWATCH by Derek Duke, Neal Acree, Cris Velasco & Sam Cardon, ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS by Danny Elfman, Cliff Martinez’s THE NEON DEMON, Ramin Djawadi’s WARCRAFT and Steve Jablonsky’s TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS.

Our John Williams album of the week is RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK; a film that turned 35 years old on June 12th.

Our re-recording / film music vault selection is James Horner’s STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN featuring Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.

I love the minilecture on “Desert Chase”! You always hit just the right balance of information, entertainment — and keeping it brief so we can get to the music 🙂 Loved the listening notes on that cue.

Loved the whole episode. I’ve not seen even the first “Now You See Me” (ironic, yes?), but now have the soundtrack “saved for later” in my Amazon basket. (Maybe I’ll just end up buying that fanfare mp3, though.)

I liked the Overwatch music, but it reminded me a lot the Big Hero Six score… I guess more for blending traditional symphonic with techno “rock,” more so than any shared melodic stuff? Strike you the same way? And I think I here hints here and there of Silvestri’s “Avengers” in the first portion of the suite you played from Elfman’s “Alice”…

I don’t like your move to talking over the first few seconds of each cue, though… I don’t know whether that’s best radio host practice or not, but I disapprove. So there. Harrumph. 🙂

But overall, as ever, thanks for consistently putting together a quality show, but, really, you outdid yourself with teaching about the Williams cue. Great stuff!

Thanks for the love. I’ve talked so much about Raiders over the years that I had to tackled it from a different angle this week. Glad you enjoyed it!

I did feel the same about Overwatch! I love the clash of styles and instrumentation… and I love the heroic theme.

Sorry about the blending of voice and music. There IS a reason behind my madness… it’s not something I wanted to do but it is something I’ve been advised to do. We can talk more about it in private if you wish.

Thanks again for listening and thanks for being a frequent commentor here on the site!
